Loom bands are very popular in Great Britain. Little strings of rubber are used to create little bracelets and other similar things. Or in this case – lingerie made completely out of a popular playground toy.
Claire Davis from Wattington, Cheshire, Great Britain, used 24 thousand loom bands to make herself a stunning two-piece lingerie set. As it might seem, it wasn‘t easy – it took a whopping patience-testing four weeks to finally come to life.
Her daughter Courtney and her friends were always making things with loom bands and that’s where the idea came from. Also, the story about a girl selling her own loom band dress for 170 thousand pounds (around 282.200 US Dollars) seemed like quite an opportunity she just couldn‘t miss.
Claire is 30-year-old single mother, who is trying to raise 25 thousand pounds (around 41.5 thousand US Dollars) to save her beauty salon named Flawless. She has sent out pleas to celebs like Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga hoping they might be interested and buy the lingerie set, so her business would be saved. Claire just does not have that kind of money, but she can’t bear losing her shop and fire four people who are working for her.
Claire, Courtney and her best friend Rebecca Lambert, spent many hours looping together a huge amount of loom bands in four different shades to make a skirt and a bra. Then they stitched it together and added some diamantes to embellish it in the end.
Claire‘s daughter and her best friend are huge fans of Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus. Seeing one of them wearing a dress they helped to make would definitely be quite a thing to remember – maybe even a real dream come true!
Claire assures that even though it was a great fun to make it, it would mean so much if she could raise the funds to save her beauty salon. She really hopes that she can get the funds necessary – after all, it would mean the world to her, and for someone like Miley, it‘s just a drop in the ocean!
With only one day left to go on the auction site, the highest bid has been only 35 pounds (around 58 US Dollars). However, during the last hours, her story was heard and in the dying minutes of the auction the bid went up nearly to the very top. The loom band lingerie set was sold for 24.959 pounds (around 41.430 US Dollars). The price increased from 35 to 24.959 pounds just in the last 14 minutes. The buyer is anonymous, but it might just have saved Claire‘s business.
Let‘s hope that soon we will see Miley Cyrus or Lady Gaga wearing that lingerie set. As well as let‘s hope that Claire will found the remaining 41 pounds (around 68 US Dollars).
