Memorial Hospital and Jacoby Arts Center in Alton are co-sponsoring the second annual Bras on Broadway exhibit. Everybody is invited to submit their bras for this event.
“You can transform an ordinary bra into an ‘artful’ submission or create a new, original bra-themed artwork” said Dee Kilgo, the organizer and planner of the event. “Artists can choose any medium or materials to stitch, paint, carve, mold, or embellish their one-of-a-kind creation.”
Artists can submit their pieces of work until Saturday, October 11. The guidelines for submissions are available from the arts center. The exhibit will be up for viewing at the Jacoby from Oct. 11 – Nov.22, with a benefit “Bras on Broadway” reception from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22. Tickets cost 30 US Dollars. Artists participating in this event will get a free ticket.
During the exhibit, everybody can vote for their favorite bra and the winner will be announced at the benefit. The benefit will include a silent auction of the bras, hors d’oeuvres, complimentary ‘bra-tini’ cocktail and entertainment by local band Off the Shoulder.
Kilgo is very excited about the event this year. Last year she organized it after talking to her son who works as a plastic surgeon in NYC. The event had more than 50 entries and people were very amazed and entertained. The bras ranged from very personal ones to whimsical, including a few that used play with words, such as alge-bra and others. Last year’s event raised about 4.500 US Dollars. Kilgo expects even better and bigger event this time.
