Ann Summers lingerie company is in quite some trouble for launching an underwear line ISIS – which shares the name with a terrorist group. ISIS or, to be more exact, “the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria” is a terrorist group also known as ISIL – “the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant”.
Ann Summers‘ ISIS line includes bras and suspenders. It has nothing to do with the terrorist group causing havoc in Iraq and Syria. The new lingerie line was inspired by the Egyptian goddess Isis, who, according to the ancient Egyptian beliefs, was worshipped as the perfect wife and mother.
A spokesperson of Ann Summers has apologized for any offense caused and stated that they acknowledge the unfortunate timing of the product launch and that they in no way support any kind of terrorism and violence.
Ann Summers spun off the brand name half a year ago but by the time ISIS terrorist group began making the headlines all around the world it was already too late to change. The launch of the product came just a few days after the execution of James Foley, the United States journalist.
